Alaska prevailing wage rates
Pick a borough or census area to see every trade's rate there, or pick a trade to compare it across the state. All 120 rates in force come from the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development (DOLWD): Pamphlet 600 Issue 53 (Sep 1, 2026).
DOLWD publishes Pamphlet 600 twice a year, in effect April 1 and September 1, for bids 10 days later. A contract uses the issue in effect 10 days before the final bid date, for the life of the contract or 24 months, whichever is shorter (AS 36.05.010). Checked against labor.alaska.gov on October 25, 2026. Federally funded work here also uses the Davis-Bacon rates, shown on each rate page; what changed in them.
What is the prevailing wage rate in Alaska?
It depends on the trade. Taking each trade's main rate in each borough or census area, DOLWD's figures run from $49.90 an hour (camp culinary worker, Aleutians East Borough) to $124.32 (commercial diver, Aleutians East Borough). Each figure is the base wage plus fringe benefits. Pick a borough or census area or a trade below for the exact rate.

How Alaska's prevailing wage rules work
- Which projects. Alaska's Little Davis-Bacon Act covers public construction contracts over $25,000 for the state, a political subdivision (boroughs, cities, school districts, state agencies and the university) or a regional school board (AS 36.05.005, AS 36.95.010).
- Which workers. Laborers, mechanics and field surveyors on the site, including owner-operators and working officers who do hands-on work (DOLWD Title 36 FAQ).
- One statewide pamphlet, with regions. There are no county schedules. Most trades have one statewide rate. Carpenters, painters, plumbers, sheet metal workers and insulators are split at 63°N; laborers and tunnel laborers use north of 63°N plus Southeast (east of 138°W) versus Southcentral and Southwest; plumbers have a 1st Judicial District rate (Pamphlet 600 Issue 53).
- Rates lock at the bid date, for 24 months. The rate is the issue in effect at least 10 days before the final bid date. It stays for the contract or 24 months, whichever is shorter, then resets to the issue in force (AS 36.05.010). New issues don't reach existing contracts before that.
- Overtime. 1½ times the basic hourly rate for hours over 8 a day and over 40 a week; fringe benefits are paid for every hour but not at time and a half (AS 23.10.060; FAQ Q20–22).
- Board, lodging and per diem. On sites 65 or more road miles from Fairbanks, Juneau or Anchorage airports, or off the road system, the contractor provides board and lodging. Per diem (at least $100 a day) can replace it only for classes marked *.
- Paperwork. Pay weekly and post the pamphlet on site. Every contractor files a sworn payroll with DOLWD every second week, and the prime files a Notice of Work with a fee of 1% of contract price, capped at $5,000 (AS 36.05.040, 36.05.045).
- No residential schedule. Title 36 has no residential rates or exemption: every covered project uses Pamphlet 600.
How we read DOLWD's data
We read every rate in Pamphlet 600 Issues 50–53 and check every number with a second, separate PDF reader. Basic rate plus every benefit column equals DOLWD's printed total on all rows. How we check.

Pamphlet 600 prints journeyman rates only. Lower rates apply only to apprentices in a program registered with DOLWD or the U.S. Office of Apprenticeship.
Alaska prevailing wage questions
Is Alaska prevailing wage the same as Davis-Bacon?
No. Alaska's own rates cover state and local public works, and Davis-Bacon rates come from the U.S. Department of Labor for federally funded or assisted construction. When a contract requires both the state rate and the Davis-Bacon rate, paying the higher of the two meets both. The contract documents say which apply.
How much does an electrician make on prevailing wage in Alaska?
$88.87 an hour for the main electrician classification wherever DOLWD lists one. See the electrician rate by borough or census area.
How often do Alaska prevailing wage rates change?
DOLWD publishes Pamphlet 600 twice a year, in effect April 1 and September 1, for bids 10 days later. This site shows Pamphlet 600 Issue 53 (Sep 1, 2026), checked October 25, 2026.
Which DOLWD rates apply to my project?
